Happy volunteer family putting their hands together on a sunny day-3

Big night in

Thursday 23 April 2020, saw the BBC hold the first ever BBC Big Night In.

The government pledged, as part of their announcement of a £750 million support package for charities, that they would match donations made during this programme to a minimum of £20 million.

Donations made during the programme will go to the National Emergencies Trust and charities can apply directly to help them through the pandemic.

This additional funding can provide charities with vital unrestricted funds which can allow charities to continue their important work during this time.

Restricted and unrestricted funds

If your charity has unrestricted reserves then these may need to be spent during this time to enable the charity to commence trading. This may involve the charity having to change priorities however it may help secure the future of the charity until additional funding can be found.

In some circumstances it may be possible to convert restricted funds into unrestricted however, if this is the case we suggest seeking professional advice.
